<<Rope? I have never seen a window with rope. >> Old windows had a rope that went to a pulley at the top of the frame. That rope was hooked to a sash weight that was hidden in the window frame. That weight counterbalanced the window so it would stay open. Newer window have flexible tracks that apply a spring pressure from the sides to hold the window open.
