IMCO's Quantum Technolgies Worldwide Inc. unit received from General Motor Corp.'s (GM) Global Alternative Propulsion Center a contract to develop fuel storage technologies for a new alternative propulsion system GM is developing.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

In a press release Monday, Impco said Quantum will develop ultra-lightweight, high-capacity fuel storage technologies designed to extend the range of the vehicle between refueling intervals.

Impco, which designs and supplies fuel storagem fuel delivery and electronic control systems, said in mid-June that it will spin off the Quantum unit by the end of the year. Impco will focus on the alternative fuel market, while Quantum will continue to focus primarily on the emerging fuel cell industry markets.

General Motors and Impco's Quantum signed an equity partnership in June for the development of hydrogen storage devices.

Impco's Web site is impcotechnologies.com.
