Neo,
Back in those beginning times, I suppose they were instrumental in holding the people together through ritual, and supplication, but still have nothing to do with them in modern times. I have had people tell me that, if I am not a Catholic, I am going to go to hell. I don't appreciate that, and it is a direct result of what some priest has taught them. A man I knew married a Catholic woman who convince him that, unless he made a complete conversion, he could not be buried in holy ground, and his body would rot. Hell, all human bodies are going to rot in the grave anyway. The Bible says that upon entering Heaven, we will be given new bodies. Some people think the old one they had on Earth is just going to get an overhaul. The can't seem to find an answer as to what happens to the bodies of Christians that are blown to bits in explosions, or burned to ashes in fires, or eaten by denizens of the deep as a result of ship sinkings.
Oh well, I don't have enough time to get into a deep religious discussion. Also, it's kind of like a cardinal rule of behavior in bars. Don't ever talk about politics, or religion. To my shame, I learned the rules of bar inhabitants all too well.
