Nope - you misunderstand !!

If a wafer can be discarded after SOI and before it reaches the FAB LINE, the COSTS have already been impacted - and throwing away a wafer that just cost over $80 plus the addition of an expensive ion implantation - and results in ZERO useable silicon - will have just increased AMD's COSTS.

You call that a benefit ?

You should work for AMD !
