note also that the flip side of this growth in money fund assets is the growth in liabilities these assets represent. i keep thinking that there must be loads of potential duds that have flown in well below the regulatory radar and have found a home in money market funds.

coming back to Shaeffer's observation, it must also be noted that while capital can, and will, at some point shift back from money market funds to equities, this is like the famous watched pot now. every other analyst cites the levels of money market fund assets as one of the reasons to be bullish. that in itself makes it a dubious signal.
