Perhaps I should be a little clearer: banning stem cell research says that we are so scrupulous about human life that we will not treat even its earliest stages as mere fodder for experiments. Permitting such research, at least, should say that the potential benefits cannot be ignored,and are of such gravity that we can justify the use of human embryos. The worst possible construction is that we can freely scavenge, as long as it doesn't look human.......
