Novellus Systems Inc. last week raised
$800 million in a financing deal that won't
cost it a penny in interest payments. Indeed,
the San Jose, Calif., maker of
semiconductor production equipment could even make some money in the
short-term from the transaction. And yet some investors have jumped at
the chance to buy these new Novellus convertible securities.
