let's suppose that qualcomm had 2 bad news: 1) COO Sulpizio
stepping down because of the Spinco cancellation and 2)
reduce guidance to be announced at the conference call.
Would they have made 2 separate announcements, one today
and another in 2 days? That would've impacted the stock
negatively twice. On the other hand, if Qualcomm had 1 good
and 1 bad news, which one would be announced first? I think
the bad news has to go out first in order to limit it's
effect. That's how I see the game being played out now
as I believe the cc will be very positive (China+Nokia+
Nextel+Nextwave+Korean Tel 50% cap lifted+Sprint PCS).

In my opinion, I think Sulpizio feels like a puppet. That's
why he resigned. He must feel like he was set up by Jacobs.
And he probably sees the top job at Qcom slipping away
now, with the Brew Kid breathing up his back. I can
understand his (apparently) impetuous resignation. Usually,
when resignations happen, companies go out of their way
to paint a glowing picture of the departing person. Not
here, it seems. But as a QCOM shareholder, I think Spinco
not going forward is a major +. All these royalty payments
have to be re-invested somewhere. Decoupling the royalty
cow from the ASIC business would've been a major major
mistake. I think DrJ realized this all along and was
dangling Spinco as threat to the Nokias of this world,
nothing less, nothing more. Really, there is no way Spinco
+ QCOM could've been stronger than QCOM alone (now that DrJ
got all the IP he needs to conquer the wireless world).
