[7/10/01] Netvigator M'sia cries foul over reports By Matthew Mok, Malaysia.CNET.com Tuesday, July 10 2001 2:38 PM KUALA LUMPUR--Lifestyle portal Netvigator Malaysia has not closed down. On Monday, it denied the articles in the country's business weekly The Edge purporting that its activities had ground to a halt. The portal's chief Lawrence Lee told Malaysia.CNET.com that the reports were untrue and that the reporter concerned got her facts wrong. "For instance, she reported that besides the closure of the local portal, our sister sites in Taiwan and Canada have also been shut down...this is not true at all," he said. At press time, Netvigator Malaysia, Netvigator Hong Kong, Netvigator Taiwan sites were still accessible while the Canadian site could not be displayed. Lee claimed that The Edge sensationalized the matter and that the stories were written without adequate research. "For example, the article said our page views had dwindled to about 80,000 a month but we have been getting in excess of one million page views consistently every month since the Netvigator Malaysia launch last May," he said. He also said the article's claim that Netvigator Malaysia's monthly burn rate was in the region of RM100,000 was wrong--it's actually much higher. Lee declined to provide the actual burn rate numbers. Lee said a representative from PCCW Hong Kong will be coming to Kuala Lumpur this week to give a clearer picture of what's in store for Netvigator Malaysia. singapore.cnet.com
