The Post confronts a scrappy but often good competitor in the right-wing Washington Times. Any newspaper's hold on the elite has been deeply weakened by the Internet, which has spawned a renaissance in conservative commentary and news, and by talk radio, whose political influence still endures from its emergence in the 1990s. Just as the liberal networks have fallen prey to new news sources, so even old liberal cable outlets like CNN have been overtaken by the Fox News Network, another right-of-center challenger. The liberal media aristocracy over which Mrs. Graham once presided in glory has had to give way to a more diverse and diffuse universal suffrage....
