Sprint establishes new Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong

(20 July 2001) U.S.-based Sprint Corp. announced on July 11 that it would establish its new Asia-Pacific regional headquarters in Hong Kong.

In addition to providing private Internet access in the market, it will also offer extensive Internet protocol (IP) services, including Sprint IP Virtual Private Network (IPVPN), Sprint International Private Lines, as well as deployment, return-line and network-management services.

SprintLink, the company’s global fiber-optic IP network, offers high-speed broadband access and provides customers a nonstop connection to the majority of the world's Internet content.

All the services are to be introduced at the beginning of August, the July 19 Shichang Bao (Market Daily) reported.

"We are extremely pleased to be extending our global network to Hong Kong, one of the most sophisticated and successful telecommunications markets in the world," Yousef Javadi, president of Sprint International, said in a company statement.

Since February, Sprint has extended its global IP network to nine markets: London, England; Paris, France; Frankfurt, Germany; Brussels, Belgium; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Sydney, Australia; Stockholm, Sweden; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Tokyo, Japan. In addition to Hong Kong, five other cities are to be added to Sprint's IP backbone this year: Milan, Italy; Munich, Germany; Dublin, Ireland; Hamburg, Germany; and Singapore.

By the end of 2003, Sprint's global network is expected to reach 35 cities in 19 countries.
