DMA,
All I know is what happened to me. When searching for a denomination that centered on the words of Jesus, in my young 20s, instead of who was going to pay for paving the parking lot, I attended several Lutheran church services. Of course, each pastor runs his church a little differently, but there was just too much liturgy for my taste in the Lutheran church, and every sermon at that time, mentioned the need for money in the building fund. When the very large new church was finished, the pastor had a nervous breakdown, and the sanctuary was much too large for the congregation. That is why I am not fond of the old denominations, and do not call the buildings in which people worship, churches. The church is all the people that believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord, and Savior, and has nothing to do with an edifice. IMO
