Like the war on drugs, and war on immigration is doomed to fail when the root cause is not addressed- ECONOMIC inequality. Illegal workers simply earn too much here to make any efforts to keep them out viable, without terrible human consequences- which the American Public would not tolerate. Because we cannot keep these workers out we must find a way to live with them. I agree with the Op-Ed piece. We need to protect immigrant workers simply because it is the right thing to do, but also because it protects our own low skilled workers- and it is also right to protect them. The very last think we want to do is set the lower classes upon each other, in a crude fight for survival. There are historical precedents for that, and they aren't pretty.
