WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 1997--

GenRad's Advanced Diagnostic Solutions Division Selected For

Multi-Million Dollar Contract

GenRad, Inc., (NYSE:GEN) today announced that a Major U.S. Automotive OEM has selected GenRad's Advanced
Diagnostic Solutions (ADS) division to be the full-service supplier for the Company's future Worldwide Diagnostic System
project. The scope of the contract will include the supply of software development tools, diagnostic applications authoring and
hardware systems throughout the world to the OEM's dealerships.

The specific terms of this multi-million dollar, multi-year contract have not yet been finalized.
