My Win2k has been up for 1 year with only 1 "crash". The crash was a system slowdown that happened when trying to do a windows update. I managed to close all apps and reboot, so no data lost.

The reliability of Win2k is an order of magnitude (or 2) better than Win98 (I used to reboot once per day with Win98).

I would recommend to all users to look at their current software, and see what programs absolutely need Win98/Me etc. If that software is not an absolute essential (or if newer Win2k compatible versions exist), then an upgrade should be performed.

I would recommend a clean install. I had trouble when I tried to do an update install going from a Win 3.1 -> Win 95 -> Win98 system (I used to migrate the system with a tape backup restore method).

The update to Win2k worked but the system crashed every now and then, so I decided on a fresh install on the same hardware. As mentioned above, no troubles since.
