I applied for a one year (and possibly longer) research post at Princeton on economic analysis of carbon sequestration. They want to evaluate technologies where the hydrogen and carbon in hydrocarbons are stripped apart and carbon dioxide buried and hydrogen used as a mobile fuel. Let's see how that goes....

He believes that although not infinite the hydro-carbon supply is abundant, and renewable. With new technological advances in finding and removing it...,

The general assumption is that oil resources will peak in a decade or two but that natural gas is much larger. Coal is huge but not so adaptable.

combined with proper solid conservation the world should have no problem meeting it's demand until another source of power can be proven economical and adapted.

The key is keeping use rates within the natural absorption limits - i.e. the ability of the geological/climate system to absorb it. Again under standard knowledge that shouldn't be a problem for oil. The risk is that we would be forced to switch back to coal which has a higher climatic impact AND find that the impacts of fossil fuel energy use on the climate are high and difficult to mitigate economically.

He just solved some astro-pyhsics problem and the results will be published shortly in Nature I believe...?

Interesting.. well they published me too <g>
