I still believe that there will be no winner or loser between Globalstar and Iridium. For the first few years there will be more than enough demand to fill both to capacity.
As for upgrading the system for technological advances all Iridium has to do is replace 63 satellites which are already planned for replacement every 5 years. Globalstar, on the other hand, would have to upgrade literally hundreds of gateways to provide the same coverage that Iridium enjoys from space.
If satellite to satellite communication is inferior to the "bent pipe" systems then why are all the newest systems being planned under this basis, ie M-Star, Celestri and Teledesic?
By the way, the launch of 7 Iridium satellites went off without a hitch at 9:02 CST. That should give the stock a boost. I will become more interested in Globalstar when they finally get some satellites in the air.
