Well, one theory (that was briefly discussed on the AMD thread) is that things fell apart after Atiq Raza left. He was the driving force behind the Athlon (from a management standpoint) and lot of AMD's recent success, if not all, can be contributed to the Athlon alone. There's always some inertia left after a successful product launch and it appears that only now, two years later, it's running out of steam.
