John, Re : "Yes AMD seems to have hit an execution wall. I haven't seen much discussion of why on the AMD thread. They were looking pretty good a year ago, what happened? Personnel problems, chasing too many projects at the same time?"

I wonder how much of this has to do with the fatigue factor. AMD has 2 or 3 main design teams and they have to be on the go all the time. They are probably always under the gun to execute near-flawlessly all the time, just to survive. These design project can be extremely draining and I wonder what kind of breaks they are getting in between projects. I would imagine it could be very demoralizing, as a designer, to put in all these effort and not see the stock appreciation of their company stock.

In the end, what keeps an AMD designer going with nothing to show for in terms of bottom line, when they could jump ship and move somewhere else where the risk/reward of success is better ? They have proved themselves to be very smart in terms of their technical knowledge and getting another job should be easy for them. Do they actually believe that AMD is on the verge of breakaway from Intels shadow and the stock is about to explode on the upside ? Is it that the design teams are based in locations where there are no other jobs to hp on to ? Is the base pay (+ bonuses) so good, that the stock (lack of) appreciation is no big deal ? Or is it the anti-intel sentiment ?

would appreciate hearing from ex-AMD employees about the culture inside AMD.

Maui.
