I trade, but I don't have doubts about what is being "missed" here. A few years ago the Asian bubble burst and the economic problems of "other countries" like Thailand and Russia threatened to bring us down -- but we were destined to have our own bubble and have it we did. Now our bubble has burst and it should come as no surprise the we ARE capable of bringing down the rest of the world, and as it goes down, so does any prospect for a recovery in the US economy. This is a stupid time to buy stocks. As Victor put it, correctly, we will have burst of short-covering, but they will fade in a matter of days if not hours. There is no reason to own stock now. People who own stock are not very good at recognizing that.
