Did you check with them how much (or little, as it turns out) they learned in HS about check books and credit, etc.... We found, quite belatedly, that their knowledge on that score, was not at all the same as what we had learned at the same age. Our first went to college...we gave her a credit card....and unfortunately, she had charged up to the max quite quickly....she thought she could as it said she had a credit limit of $5000....

We did a time and motion study with her....she came to realize that on the little PT job she had and all the classes and social obligations she had, she would be working for the next 25 years to pay it off....She hadn't thought about that part.... "The bill just said to pay $xx.xx balance per month" is what she thought....

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh memories.... Puppies are easier to raise....they don't talk back...they just bark at you when you tell them they just did something naughty...
