Seahawks agree to terms with WR Robinson, sign G Hutchinson July 25, 2001
CHENEY, WASHINGTON (TICKER) -- Hours after reaching agreement with wide receiver Koren Robinson on a multi-year contract Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks signed their other first-round draft pick, guard Steve Hutchinson.
Terms of Hutchinson's pact were not disclosed.
Robinson left North Carolina State early to apply for the draft and is expected to be the primary target for new Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. He was the second wide receiver selected after the Chicago Bears took David Terrell with the eighth overall pick.
The Seahawks released Sean Dawkins and Derrick Mayes, their top two receivers the last two years, and plan to start Robinson and Darrell Jackson.
As a redshirt sophomore last season, Robinson caught 62 passes for 1,062 yards and 13 touchdowns. In his final college game, Robinson caught seven passes for 157 yards in the Micronpc.com Bowl against Minnesota.
Hutchinson, the 17th overall pick, was a four-year starter at Michigan and became the third player in Big Ten history to be named first-team all-conference for four straight years.
The Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year could move right into the lineup for the Seahawks, who lost guard Pete Kendall to free agency and plan to switch Chris Gray from center to guard.
Seattle also announced the signing of quarterback Josh Booty, their sixth-round pick, to a multi-year deal. |
