Based on your advice I bought IN A SUNBURNED COUNTRY by Bill Bryson and read it before and during our trip.

I did see and get some pictures of a kangaroo in the wild at Tower Hill. We hired a one person tour guide "Josephine at SEEALL tours" <g> in Warrnambool for a few days and I gave her the challenge of finding me a kangaroo in the wild and she succeeded.
