Duke Crow, you are correct in your assessment that we will never agree on investment strategies. In most mutual funds, unlike individual issues, risks are mitigated by virtue of the fund holding a basket of stocks. The record shows a LT upward trend in most cases of well managed diversified funds. The same cannot be said of many individual issues. You use the term "speculator". I prefer the term "trader". And, not only do I not care if GX ever makes a profit, I don't care which direction the share price moves, as long as it does move. There is money to be made on both sides of the fence. And that's what makes a market.
