Ocala Abortion Doctor to Begin Serving 46-Month Sentence The Associated Press Published: Jul 25, 2001 OCALA, Fla. (AP) - An abortion doctor convicted of falsely accusing a Marion County official of bomb threats reported to federal prison Wednesday to begin serving a sentence of nearly four years. Dr. James Scott Pendergraft IV had his motion to remain free on bond while he appeals his conviction on attempted extortion, conspiracy and mail fraud charges rejected by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday. Pendergraft, 44, owns the Ocala Women's Center and four other Florida clinics which provide abortion services. He reported to a federal minimum-security prison camp that is part of U.S. Penitentiary-Atlanta, prison spokesman Mike Binion said. In May, Pendergraft was sentenced last month to three years, 10 months imprisonment, two years of supervised release and fined $25,000. He was convicted in February.
