I don't blame Gates, but I think there is a lot less to admire than is commonly thought. There is a trilogy by William Faulkner, The Hamlet, The Town, and The Mansion, about the Snopes family of Yoknapatawpha County. It is the fictional model of Gates and MSFT. I would be very interested in knowing if Gates read these and if they really were a model. Of course he always had Machiavelli.
