Well then, try this on for size:

What distinguishes a human from an animal? The ability to have cognitive rational thought, and to perceive events before they occur to be able to act upon them, and to have the ability to store memory and apply it to current situations in new ways, thus employing innovation.

All this implies a certain level of brain wave activity and brain development. All this is the core of what makes a human truly human by any definition.

Something at the moment of conception, or even months later does not qualify as a human being... only a potential human being. Therefore, the actual human (the mother) has rights she can exercise over the potential in her womb.
