Roses are trimmed back in early Jan...it dehydrates them to trim them this time of the year and as a consequence they can develop diseases....the sun saps too much water outta them...hope you provide extra water to them after the chopping off...

Unless they had some disease which he was trying to control. Spring and fall is the peak time for them to bloom..with moderate sprays thrown in during summers...

You might want to ask him why he did that...

I was kidding about being offended....of course. <smile>
