Tripling? More like quadrupling and then some, at least from the worst of it.

In Q3 of 1997, according to MDR, Intel had 89% of the market IBM/Cyrix had about 6%, and AMD had about 5%.

Now IBM/Cyrix is just about out of the IBM PC compatible market (how many parts does VIA sell?) and AMD has 22.5% of the market. Intel is down to about 77%.

AMD is on a roll, having gained a big chunk of the desktop market, and this quarter it's moving into notebooks - meanwhile INTC market share is also on a roll... off a cliff!
