01/07/26, 1:44pm - So yesterday I went up to the mall where my sister works. That's the pet shop with the maltese puppy, remember? I had to check to see that they were taking good care of her, and it turns out that they've done an excellent job. The employees there have even gone out of their way to buy the baby food that the puppy likes so much. ^_^

That interesting thing was this: Out of perhaps fifteen desktop computer systems, precisely zero were based on AMD processors. Not an Athlon or Duron in the house. Well, that's not completely inaccurate: There were actually a disproportionately high number of Athlon and Duron notebooks (and, interestingly enough, they were among the most feature packed of the notebooks on display). Still, the complete lack of desktop systems did come as a bit of a reality shock, and I'm sure you might find it surprising.
Of course, I do not approve of this. While I realize that there are things like business and marketing causes for all of it, I tend to focus myself more as an informed consumer (I like to completely ignore that marketers exist), so I want to grab the maximum benefit for myself. So I feel personally affronted when these retail stores do not even give a hint that they're willing to grant us a choice on the internals of the systems. |
