Why do I NEED to upgrade to XP?

Because Microsoft's clever anticompatibility engineers will ensure that Windows-based web sites, .Net services, and Office are just incompatible enough and just buggy enough in Windows 98 that you will have to subscribe to Windows XP just to get any work done.

Because if you buy a new computer, you won't have a choice, because Microsoft's anticompetitive marketing folks will set up their sales incentives so that vendors who don't push XP will be punished.

Because the big calm face on the TV will say that it is better. And he's watching you.

Why should I buy the X Box over the Playstation?

You've got me there. No reason. Why wouldn't you just buy a Mac, and play full-speed emulated Playstation games on that?
