>> yup, all those homeless oil sheiks, brings a tear to the eye; where do they gas up their armored Mercedes, anyway? <<

heh, you have a point there. i wasn't trying to claim that the arabs are exactly poor or anything. but they did get accustomed to a certain lifestyle after oil exploded in the 80's and then after oil prices collapsed they ran up a lot of debt. that forced them to keep the oil flowing to service the debt, but they are wiser the second time around and they are gaining strength as the profits roll in.

>> The real money goes to the rulers and the regular people suffer, just like in China and Russia. <<

no question people are exploited around the world. laws have been passed and human rights advocacy groups have tried boycotts and such. obviously it is so widepsread and there are so many people on this earth that exploitation will probably never be eradicated. but the focus should be on the direction of change. is there more capitalism happening around the world? are dictatorships and communist governments toppling?

victor, would you agree or not that capitalism is becoming more pervasive around the world in the last few decades? would you agree that it is harder to exploit the masses the more capitalist a society becomes? would you also agree that the more capitalism that people are exposed to, the greater their standard of living and the more resources they will consume?

that is my only point. not that china is perfect or better than america. not that exploitation will be eradicated. my point is that global capitalism is taking shape and it's accelerating. this will place an increasing demand and need for basic commodities.
