| There are, indeed, deficiencies with the Actor's Studio, which seems geared to 50s "social realist" drama, like "On the Waterfront". On the other hand, when Strasburg played Hyman Roth in "The Godfather II", one got a clear sense of how subtle the Method could be, how observant of detail, how low key...Hopkins is very good. Kevin Spacey is one of the best of the current stars, along with James Cromwell, Russell Crow, William Macy, and various others. Some of them may be Method Actors, for all I know......Yes, a lot of the old stars had a great, commanding presence. Some, like O'Toole and Connery, became even better as they got older. Maybe being encouraged to be more expressive was good for them....... |
