There was not a split decision. Texas Governor George W. Bush won the popular vote in the 30 states marked in red. 60%

Cities, where a pack of cigarette can find hundreds of voters.
Al Gore won 71% to Bush's 26% of the vote in mega - city population centers over 500,000 in size

Bush won 60% to Gore's 38% of the vote in smaller population centers (10,000 to 50,000 in size) and 60% in rural areas.

There was a clear choice of two populations with different perceptions.

Those who live in places where you can see the environment and nature and folks are friendly gave President Bush a landslide.

Places where the poor of maintained at a poverty level with a diet of victimology accepted a Gorey view of America. They chose Gore.

This was not a split decision.

Even in Florida the split occurred in the same way. The demographics of Florida is a microcosm of America. But Janet Reno send Ilian back and assured President Bush Was.

This is a site with excellent breakdown of who voted how.
