No, we had many bear markets before that were not associated with recessions, there were about twice as many bear markets than there were recessions in the last 50 years or so. Mind you, I use the accepted definition of two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth as "recession". From the beginning of this bear, i have ,maintained that we wll not get a recession during this phase. I think we do have a "traditional recession" coming up later next year or early 2004 (which presume will be nipped in the bud with pumping as polticos want to get reelected).
