I didn't realize you're a gardener. I wouldn't call myself a "gardener" but I did plant a lot of things since we moved into this house in fall, 1999, that seem to be growing. The back yard is wooded with very tall mature oaks, black gums, and hollies, so most of the back yard is deep shade. Front yard has four peach trees, an apple tree, three sweet cherry trees, one sour cherry tree, three bush cherries, two apricots, two plums, and a pluot, five blueberry bushes, a strawberry bed, and two grape vines on arbors, and tubs of mint, thyme, basil, bay and lavender along the walkway. Northern side yard has a tomato bed. Southern side yard has three fig trees along the foundation, and another grape vine. Back yard has two pear trees in the one sunny spot, and two pawpaws as understory trees in the woods, plus raspberry, blackberry and gooseberry bushes along a fence - they don't get much sun, though.
I am not an addict, exactly, but I do wander around the yard contemplating cutting down perfectly good trees that don't bear fruit so I can have more room for fruit trees, e.g., a lovely mature holly, a Japanese magnolia that is just beautiful in the spring, and a 20-ft tall spruce tree. Not to mention contemplating uprooting a planting of well-established (5 ft. tall) white azaleas along the northern foundation so I can espalier apples and pears on the brick wall there (I'd relocate the azaleas to the woods.)
I also plan to put in a beehive this winter. But I really am not an addict. My real weakness is books. |
