Ok, sport: wanna get "out of the box"? Let's use Russian Molniya satellites. They're pretty cool --- highly eliptical constellation of four satellites in a brilliant 63 degree inclined orbit that has them hanging "quasi-stationary" over Hudson's Bay, Canada, sequentially, for 6 hours each.

From which they can see and serve the entire northern hemisphere on a single hop.
