| We fulfill ourselves as human beings as members of a community, benefiting from the accumulation of knowledge and material development that has been handed down, including language and social skills. Justice, overall, is not just the sum of individual rights, but the right ordering of the polity in which we live, and each of us, as citizens, plays a role in helping to sustain a good polity. In some instances, our role is comparatively limited to voting and paying our taxes, in others, we accept more responsibility, but each of us should have civic concern, and those actions, like sitting on a jury, that are necessary to preserving justice within the polity may very well involve penalties for shirkers....... |
