I hope it helps CPQ stock price. I think it is a dumb move on their part. It would be have been a good strategy if there was no potential for any profitability in selling PCs. However, if this becomes a good business after XP launch, their PCs will tend to stick out. It may affect buyers of PCs who have no intention of signing up with AOL. However, if PC demand remains soft for a long time, this could be a way to make some easy money. I would be curious to see if Dell would do something like this. I don't doubt it because they will also see it as opportunity to pick up more market share in consumer PCs. Exactly the same way they did by being an Intel only boxmaker. Just speculation.
