Wolfgang, unfortunately i have not had much experience with "curve fitting or avoiding it". Most of my easy langauge writing thus far has been limited to writing screening programs. I have to admit they have been very successful, my portfolio that i have alocated to that strategy is up over 14% in the last two weeks (as you know i have had TS less than 1 month). My screens have been designed to identify stocks that are program trading candidates and have reached a technical support that brings in the program traders. Most of my trades have been for 1 day to 5 days. I screen over 10,000 stocks daily and on a typical day have 2 or 3 candidates. This screen is so tight that MSFT and INTC have each had only one buy indicator in the past 2 years.

My next strategy will be to start doing some analysis on commodities as they tend to be driven more by technicals that any other instrument that is traded.

I would like to hear your stories on "curve fitting" and how to eliminate or negate the effects of it.

Regards,

Blaine
