Yet, a single 1.2 MP beats a dual 933 P3 256K in most of the benches in Anands article, sometimes with big margins. It is also interesting that going from 700 to 900 (almost a 30% increase) yields less than 10% increase. Also interesting that there are 10 external storage enclosures attached to that 2 way server, thus, Tony is wrong about leaving off external enclosures in servers. Also, the 4 way doubled the memory and boosted the number of controllers and disk. I wonder how it would have done with half of the memory and one less controller.

Here is SpecWeb for a dual 933 P3: spec.org and a quad 700 Xeon 2MB: spec.org . From these (same software and about same time), the 4 way is only 37.9% faster. Here is two systems both 700 MHz 2MB Xeons 2 way: spec.org and 4 way: spec.org. That is a 33.8% increase doubling the exact same CPU on the same box even with doubling the memory too. Thus, for SpecWeb99, going from 933 MHZ P3 to 700 MHz 2MB Xeon is an increase of only 3.1% both dual and it could be just that the Xeon gets more memory. So if dual 1.2 MP is more than 40% faster in SpecWeb99 than 933 P3, it would beat 4 way 700 Xeon 2MB as well.

Here is a bench where dual 1.2 MP beats 4 way 700 2MB.
