Point is that if you include I/O farms made up of RAID arrays and tape drives, line printers, etc., in the price of a Dell or Compaq server, how do you console EMC who may supply the I/O farm, or HP that supplies the printer, that the revenue goes to the server vendor? You don't. You just can't say that all the equipment in an IT center is part of a server or servers. That's about what you're trying to say, in your crusade to prove that CPU content is .2 to 2% of server price (I say more like 20%). There are many separate pieces that get their own line item in the purchase order, and do go to multiple vendors.

Again, here are some server sites. You tell me if separate RAID array racks or line printers are options under the server when you go to configure one.

Here is a specific 4-way Compaq on its configuration options page. Find me any RAID array racks or line printers in there. Sure, you can buy RAID array racks from them, but they would be a separate line item, and the revenue even goes to a different Compaq division.

Again, you just can't lump all the equipment that can be connected to a server under the name or purchase order of the server, your most absurd one so far being a line printer.
