Here's a collection of Statements regarding visibility from the Semi Company's that have reported so far....taken as a whole, it's interesting to say the least...

ELNT

`Though we feel our business has largely stabilized at this point, there continues to be poor visibility - particularly in our DSL business. We, therefore, are anticipating that revenues will remain flat to modestly down 5% from Q3 levels.

NVLS

Recognizes that customers are faced with same uncertainty that NVLS is, and says it is difficult to get anyone to talk anymore because they have been wrong so many times in forecasting... says industry conditions are "really murky right now"

AMD

``This is the sharpest downturn I've ever seen,'' Sanders said, though he expressed confidence that AMD is keeping costs down and investing in the right technologies to come out healthy.

``2002 should be a much more normal year,'' he said. ``Our long-term earnings potential is undiminished.''

RFMD

The Greensboro, North Carolina-based company also said it
still believes it will return to profitability during the 2001
calendar year

BRCM

But on Wednesday, Broadcom Chief Executive Dr. Henry Nicholas reiterated the company's message that its business would improve by the end of the year.

"As we indicated then, we are continuing to see signs that business is stabilizing for the second half of the year," Nicholas said in a prepared statement. "Having a diversified portfolio of products within the broadband communications sector should position us well as these markets begin to improve."

AMCC

Applied Micro didn't even bother to give an outlook for a recovery in its press release, saying only that business conditions remain weak. It did say though that it would take an $8 million to $11 million restructuring charge in the second quarter ending in September to cover a 5% workforce cut and plant closings.

Applied Micro Chief Executive Dave Rickey tried to strike a positive tone during the conference call, saying that he still believed that the June quarter would end up marking the bottom in terms of revenue because of the slowdown in cancellations. He said that revenue would be flat to slightly up in the second quarter ending in September as compared to the June quarter. If revenues are flat, he expects to book another loss of 5 cents a share.

AHAA

Alpha said it expects to report sequential sales growth of 5 percent to 10 percent in the second quarter, and a net loss of 5 cents to 7 cents per share. It said it expects third quarter sales to grow at least 20 percent sequentially, with a return to profitability in the quarter.

PXLW

The company expects third-quarter revenue to rise by as much as 67 percent from a year ago to be between $24.5 million and $25.5 million.

PMCS

PMC-Sierra also said in a statement that ``data points indicate that inventory is burning off at our customers and the contract manufacturers.''

MCHP

``As indicated in our June 14 business update, we believe that the inventory correction has almost run its course, based on an increase in turns orders and slowing of pushouts and cancellations. While we are confident that our high rate of design-in activity will position us well to return to a pattern of growth, visibility continues to be low.

``We plan to maintain our stance of cautious optimism for the near term, and will continue to monitor industry and market conditions very closely. We are pleased with the current positioning of Microchip, and remain optimistic on our long-term outlook.''

CRUS

"Looking at Q2, our Analog & Internet Solutions business backlog is up over first quarter levels, our book-to-bill ratio is strong and design win activity is high," said CEO David French, according to a statement. "But in the short term, as with most everyone else in the industry, we remain cautious about the market environment, and we will continue to manage our expenses and resources very carefully."

LSCC

``Looking forward, the semiconductor market and the general economy remain weak. We enter the September quarter with a depleted backlog and limited visibility regarding a significant rebound in business. Consequentially we anticipate another sequential revenue decline. Although our short-term outlook is highly uncertain, we believe we have taken the appropriate actions to sustain our profitability through 2001 while positioning us for the inevitable cyclical rebound in our industry'', Tsui concluded.

MSCC

"Based on current backlog and forecasts from customers, we are expecting our fourth quarter sales to again buck the current trend in an industry which has announced significant declines," said James Peterson, president and chief executive, in a statement. He cited the company's diverse customer base as the driver behind results.

However, Microsemi predicted sales would be flat sequentially in the fourth quarter -- about $57 million to $61 million.

"We plan to maintain our stance of cautious optimism for the near term ..." Peterson said. "We remain optimistic about our long-term outlook."

VSEA

For the fourth-quarter, Gloucester, Massachusetts-based Varian said it sees a decline in revenue of between 60 to 70 percent over last year's levels, resulting in below breakeven performance for the period. Sales for the full year should be about 10 to 13 percent below 2000 levels, the company said

LRCX

"Our visibility is awful," Bagley said during a conference call. "I don't see anything that will drive bookings other than the beginning of a recovery in semiconductor business and I don't know when that will occur."

CYMI

Cymer said it expects a further decline in unit shipments and additional reductions in consumable sales from second quarter levels for the third quarter

CCMP

``Visibility remains clouded relative to the duration of this downturn,'' Cabot Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Matthew Neville said in a statement.

VECO

As previously noted, we are experiencing a slowdown in orders, particularly in optical telecommunications. As a result, we have taken cost reduction actions including a staff reduction of 130 people, approximately 8% of our workforce.''

LSI

The semiconductor maker also warned that third-quarter revenue would fall 10% to 15% from the second quarter,

TSM

"I still believe the third quarter will be better than the second quarter, and the fourth quarter better than the third," said Mr. Chang.

POWI

said it has begun to see its business stabilize during a demand drought that has hit the chip industry.
