Flextronics reports flat earnings in Q1

SINGAPORE, July 19 (Reuters) - Operational services provider Flextronics International Ltd (NasdaqNM:FLEX - news) on Thursday reported fiscal first-quarter earnings per share that were flat over a year ago, but fell within the range of analysts forecasts.

Singapore-based Flextronics reported first-quarter cash net income of $90.6 million or 18 cents per diluted share, vs. $79.5 million, or 18 cents per share, for the comparable quarter last year.

The consensus estimate among the 26 brokers polled by Thomson Financial/First Call was 19 cents per share, with forecasts ranging from 18 cents to 22 cents.

Net sales for the quarter totaled $3.1 billion, compared with $2.7 billion for the year-ago quarter.

``We continue to focus on improving all our operating metrics during this tough period in the market and are pleased that we are able to grow in the most difficult environment of our company's history,'' said Michael Marks, the company's chairman and chief executive.
