At the time, this Sept 2000 news release from AVIR was reassuring on this score. Perhaps the FDA was overly fastidious because of this past relationship.

From 1999 until beginning his assignment with Aviron, he [Dr. Greenberg] served as chair of the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
