Windsock: Using AMD results in unreliable systems.

Your constant whining on this subject matter is getting rather tiresome. You have exactly zero proof to back it up and, in fact, a solid case can be made for the exact opposite. (We can start off with Intel's most recent string of recalls and half-recalls, add to that Paul's favorite - the Via Southbridge, that doesn't work properly in either AMD or Intel systems - and Dan/Niceguy's (sorry, can't tell them apart) favorite - the ever-present i850 (thanks for the correction Win Smith) flat out incompatibility with non-bus mastering PCI devices).

From personal experience: We use quite a few AMD and Intel systems for servers where I work. All are extremely taxed and run a fairly wide variety of tasks. Which CPU powers the system doesn't appear to be a factor in the risk of down-time. Actually, I'd have to say that our dual-P2 system is probably the most crash-prone, but I have little reason to suspect the hardware. (We don't have any P4s, so the added instability of that platform over P3 is not something we have to worry about).
