Anybody who has ever driven in Boston knows that looking in your side view mirrors when changing lanes is a sign of weakness. If you look in your mirrors, a Bostonian will never let you merge cuz they know that you will back off. If you don't look, they know that they have to back off or they will be liable for the damage. Perhaps the only positive cultural thing that I brought back from my brief residence in Boston is ignoring my stinkin side view mirrors.
