Johnd,

Just a few things to consider under alternative thinking.

Past 11 years (this is off my head so someone is free to put exact numbers if they have them available) MSFT went public in 86.

Roughly split adjusted

MSFT from $1 to $130 today
KO from $7 to $70 today

adjusting KO to MSFT translates into
KO from $1 to $10
Thus MSFT has yielded 13x more than KO over the past 11 years.

Still, for people who wish to diversify KO is a good choice. KO making a 10+ fold increase over the past 10 years is not chopped liver. People have done well in KO.

Also, MSFT makes software for computers. KO's business is much like software. It has a proprietary trademarked product called COKE with world wide brand recognition. However, instead of spending a lot to make the inital computer code then turning out disks (which is like printing money), KO has its secret syurp formula then it turns out the 2L bottles, 12oz cans and such through its bottlers (which is like printing money)

Today, like MSFT, KO in my opinion is an increasing returns company even though it has been in operation for over onehundred years. CCE the bottler is a seperate company now. KO today more closely resembles a software company (proprietary syrup formulas, branding, marketing,) than it does a food\beverage or manufacturing company.

IMHO
