I think everybody who cares about books wants a great home library -- I'm just lucky enough to have a wife malleable enough to let me have a study of my dreams, or almost, as long as she gets the whole rest of the house to play with. Fine by me! They did a lot the week we were away -- the second floor is on, and the second floor walls are about half up. My library is two stories high, with the second story a wide balcony around three sides of of the library. It's wide enough to have shelving on the walls and also shelving instead of railings surrounding the "well" that extends from the ground floor up about 25 feet to the cathedral ceiling. Which allows the upper story of the North wall to be a window wall giving incredible amounts of natural light to the whole room without losing much wall space -- of course there are windows on the ground floor, but not so many that they will inerfere with necessary shelf space. The second floor also has a window on the west side which will be a window seat and I can already tell will become a wonderful place to read -- the view is spectacular, partly shaded by a huge old fir tree but with the lower branches long ago died off so all you see is the bottom of the branch cap high above you and the wonderfully textured trunk which, by giving some sense of scale, enhances rather than interferes with the panoramic view across the Strait clear to Vancouver island.

As to Deliverance, got through about half of it on the planes, but all I can say is, YUCK. I do NOT like this book. Well, I'll finish it in time for the posting on the 8th. But I have to say that although the idea of stranger is a wonderful course idea, so far the readings "your" prof came up with are distinctly uninspiring.

Oh well. The fun is more in the company than the topic anyhow.

But if people are open to it, I got some recommendations of books at this conference which sound totally fascinating and very accessible. Mostly neuropsychology brain-compatible education. I think it would really interest this group. If others think so (and if the TBC allows!) I'll toss out some titles for consideration.

Oh -- TBC = Thread Big Cheese. Which is to say, You! <g>
