Goldman Sachs said Singapore-listed Pacific Century Regional Developments' earlier-announced on-market buying of Pacific Century Cyberworks (0008) provided a technical supporting level for the stock at between HK$1.9799 and HK$2.0125, maintaining its "Market Performer" rating on PCCW.

The Richard Li-controlled Pacific Century Regional Development announced on July 27 it had acquired 11.9 million shares in PCCW, which lifted its stake in PCCW to 33.68 percent from previously 33.63 percent. The shares were bought between July 23 and July 26 at a price range of HK$1.9799 to HK$2.0125, providing a technical support level for the stock, said analyst Radek Barnert in a research note to Goldman's clients today.

Earlier in the week, PCRD announced it would delay the redemption of preference shares from Richard Li due to insufficient earnings, said Barnert.
